Nowhere explodes into existence for 5 amazing days, it's participants bringing art, music, life, love, chaos and adventure into a world that has lost sense of the primal reasons for existence... then it fades back to the dust from which it blossomed.

A gift economy, radical self expression, radical self reliance, leave no trace and no spectators.... these guiding lights, and the natural filter of
the desert, mean that Nowhere is not for everyone. What do you think about the possibility of trans-sexuality, a
specific
sexuality for trans people and those who love them?
These hard-core videos are shot from the perspective that trans
bodies,
in their transitioning and exceptional states of being, are
desirous and moreover,
delicious.
Seen together, they claim a space for trans-loving and
trans-sexing.

From the historical first pornographic look at the initiation of
a
neo-phallus (1989) to a transman on transwoman sex scene (2003),
this
footage is taboo breaking. Directly confronting the plethora of
she-male porn that pretends to fully represent the erotic
potential of trans
bodies, these videos use different strategies to provide fresh
and innovative
erotic images of MTF and FTM trans bodies. They might change the
way you see
the spectrum of transsexual desire. The excerpts will be
introduced and
contextualized by Eliza Steinbock, a researcher at the University
of
Amsterdam, The Amsterdam School for Cultural Analysis (ASCA).

Wilfred Drechsler, Netherlands 2004 talk show and documentary,

Originally made as a TV show by the evangelical broadcaster EO in
the
Netherlands. Jamie (14) and Danique (15) are young and active
girls who have
many friends at school. But then the youngsters tell us about
their gender
dysphoria and being born as boys. Both transgender girls go to
school in
their chosen gender identity now. Boys and girls at Jamie's
school talk about their
reactions after Jamie reveals to the school about her change of
gender representation. Danique wants to be a singer but she
worries about
her low voice. A former contestant of the European Song contest
teaches
Danique singing techniques.

In this extraordinary episode of the show, the transgender girls
discuss
gender dysphoria in the context of their Christian upbringing
without fear
or shame.

This remarkable documentary contrasts the ways in which gender
dysphoria in
youth is treated in different societies by shooting a double
portrait of two
transgender kids, the Dutch Nina and the German Lyle.
Nina, born as a boy, attends school as a girl these days. She is
supported
by school mates and her loving family. She also gets proper
guidance from
the gender clinic who takes her gender dysphoria seriously. The
story of
Lyle is far more bitter. Born as a girl in conservative Bavaria,
Lyle wishes
to be accepted as a boy at school. Sadly, neither the kids at
school nor the
school board have any intention of making Lyle's life easier.
Moreover Lyle
is getting no support from the doctors, who are willing to treat
his gender
dysphoria only when he reaches 18.
Only Lyle's parents give him a sense of place in the world.
There is an interactive programme for youth after the screening.

Gewoon Liefde (Simply Love)
Eveline van Dijck, Netherlands 2006, documentary, 60',
video, in Dutch with
English subtitles 41 years after the lovers Marcel and Marijke
parted, a letter of request
arrives from the Search Service of a city council looking for
Marcel,
who has now transitioned into a woman called Marcella. The old
love hasn't
forgotten about her Marcel. The fire is quickly rekindled and
soon marriage
is in the picture. From 1991 to 1993, Eveline van Dijck has made
a documentary
called Anders Bekeken on Marcella's transition and its
effects on her wife and sons.
Gewoon Liefde (`Simply Love') is a surprise
follow-up to that documentary.
The film courageously shows rare images of sixty-somethings
falling in love in full glory.

Gemma Glitter
Daphne Schriek, Netherlands 2004, short film, video, 9', in Dutch
with
English subtitles.
In glamourous Gemma Glitter's Health Gala (modeled after the
Dutch crown
prince's wife, princess Maxima), the dry-humored Dr. Andrea Amore
explains
to the kids what gender roles mean, and why there are boys who
want to be
girls and vice versa. The cute Marijn (15) explains what gender
dysphoria
means to him (and why he has no problem with it at all!).

interested who is going? noticed that a quite a few folx ive spoken to in usa are not going as they are feel sketched out by it. im excited about it as it brings a political element to queerution that it maybe needs. im wondering how ppl are going to take on the issues of the situation in the middle east and keep a queer angle to it.

i just read the site and i find it interesting the reletative acceptance of homo's in tel aviv amongst israeli but less so in the palestine where its seen more as a threat. so what would be the reception for radical queers?

Our Gendered Lens:

A Photography Book From the Transgender, Transsexual, Genderqueer, Thirdgender, Non-gender, Gender variant, Gender Defiant.

This photography book will focus on our images, scenes from our worlds, what we see through our own lenses, and what role gender identity plays in our lives.

This book will allow us to share our lives and our experiences through images of our own creation. It is important that we take creative control of the images that represent who we are. Subject matter is up to you, the photographer, as long as it pertains to your gender in some way.

The main goal of this project is to visualize as many gender identities as possible, in an international scope, through photographs taken by people in the trans and gender variant community.

I am hoping to get photographs from around the world. I hope to find submissions that represent places that have smaller trans and gender variant communities, right along side those of us who live in large cities. The book will include photographers from diverse racial and class backgrounds
and across a wide age range.

****I am looking for people that can help translate the call for submissions and help with international communities. If you can help with this please let me know in an email.****

If you would like to participate in this project and do not have the funds for a camera (disposable or otherwise) or film developing please email me or send me a letter so we can work something out.

Deadline for submissions has been set for October 2005.

During this weekend in Europe's hottest capital, we will focus on
spirituality, arts, politics and creativity. By means of workshops and
discussions led by international authorities in various fields, we will

rooted. Through close reading, we will discover and formulate
discourses
within Jewish tradition and history that enable us to question
normalized
presumptions about gender, sexuality and identity. How Jewish are these
concepts of criticism, change and gender-play? Through these
alternative
discourses within Jewish tradition, we will also try to formulate a
specific queer Jewish consciousness.

This queer Jewish consciousness will be further explored through
consciousness raising and creativity: through art and storytelling
workshops we will share our stories and (re-)define ourselves and our
desires.

Oh, and the Queer Shabbaton Amsterdam is a great way to finally meet
nice
Jewish grrrzls and boyz from all over Europe, the States and Israel.
Entertainment and lots of delicious shabbat food will play a central

this weekend!

This shabbaton will take place from Friday the 5th till Saturday the

August 2005. Amsterdam Gay Pride will take place on Saturday and the
shabbaton will offer a great framework to watch or even participate in

Pride Festival in Warzawa/Poland May 1st

POLAND, WARSZAWA, 30th April

We would like to invite all of you on the Fifth Edition of the "Noc
Walpurgii" (Valpurgi's Night) Festival, organized since 1996, regulary
every two years, by the people connected with initiatives like
Emancypunx - anarchofeminist collective/label/distribution and Refuse
- political DIY straightedge/hardcorepunk label/distribution/shows, both
from Warszawa, Poland.

Main issue of the festivals is supporting women activities in
alternative, underground and counterculture movements and communities,
supporting Lesbian/Gay/Queer cultures and also DIY culture and
activities. This festival is one of the form of protest against
sexist, male dominated and patriarchal order, against social and
cultural gender inequalities norms and discrimination against
Lesbian/Gays.

"Noc Walpurgii" was first such a festival taking this issues as a main
idea of the festival in Poland and Eastern Europe. In conservative and
catholic countries like Poland, issues of gender equality, sexism, feminism or
anarcho-feminism, gay/lesbian discrimination etc. were almost non-existant
back then in the public discussions. In alternative/underground scenes it was so
often connected with bigotry, prejudice and hatred.
This festival was supposed to makes people more aware of this issues
and create more space to women activities, feminist and
anarcho-feminist ideas and gay/lesbian/queer participation in radical
movements.
During all this years it became also one of the biggest and one of the
most important DIY event in Poland. It has special atmosphere and
mixed audience - as during the festival we're asking both genders for
participation, so there's also all-male hardcore and punk bands
supporting the ideas of the festival.
Two years ago, there was 800 visitors and great atmosphere during all
night. We asked you about joining the festival and make this event a
great again as during last years!

ACTIVE MINDS (Scarborough, UK)
legendary all-male political and critical hardcore/thrash/punk band,
existed since 1986 and being always one of the basic fundament of the
DIY scene in UK. Still uncompromised and radical with their beliefs
after years, critical towards captalism, patriarchalism, every form of
discrimation, ineqyuality and oppression. Great proof for consequence
in a creative loud music and radical message.

BEYOND PINK (Helsingborg, Sweden)
raging all-female band being quite known already in Europe after their
debut 7" and for sure will get even more attention after upcoming 10"
on Agit Prop Records from US - label dedicated to all-women and
Queer/Gay/Lesbian punk/hardcore and hip-pop bands/artists. Music of
Beyond Pink is angry raw hardcore with some crusty influences with
good dose of more melodic parts.

intense and fast hardcore, in the vein of early Washington DC hardcore
with strong influences of youth crew and thrashy hardcore. Positive
and political, anti-homophobic and pro-choice message, and yet lots of

bassist with famous straight-edge band from Barcelona - Afterlife.

and already played in New Zeland, Uk, or Denmark, supporting bands
like Harum-Scarum etc.

all female band with intense, straightforward and
melodic Punk/Hardcore sound. Members are active in the Dutch scene
since years, known before from the band No Sex. Fatwas played already

electro/spoken word project of Veruska -
dedicated and active person in underground feminist and Queer scene in
Roma, editor of "Clit Rocket" Fanzine, underground radio "Queen Bee",
booking shows and tours for many girl bands.

T-Image Foundation presents in collaboration with Cinema de Balie the
Netherlands Transgender Filmfestival from May 18 -22 in Amsterdam.
For the third
time, De Balie will be the festival's hot spot for celebration of
gender diversity
and the freedom of gender expressions. The festival will celebrate its own
Dutch-Canadian connection in the Transcanadian programme.

The festival is honoured to kick off the biggest transgender event in the
Netherlands with the feature Transamerica, a touching and acclaimed
road movie by
Duncan Tucker about a transgender woman who is pulled into an unexpected
travel adventure when she found out that she has a long lost son who
is looking
for his long lost dad. Starring Felicity Huffman (Desperate
Housewives) and the
young upcoming actor Kevin Zegers.

Other titles in our Main Programe are Asia Argento's adaptation of The Heart
is Deceitful above all Things, a heartbreaking tale of young Jeremy who's
dragged into the unstable world of drugs, abuse and truck stops tricks of his
mother Sarah, based on the second novel of cult author J.T. Leroy;
Melancholic and
poetic is the Taiwanese feature Splendid Float by Zero Chow about a Taoist
priest who's also the star of a drag queen band and Agnes und seine
Brüder, the
over-the-top tragicomedy by Oskar Roehler.

A special focus on Canadian productions can be found in the Transcanadian
programme; Drew Dennis of Vancouver's Out on Screen: Queer Film &
Video Festival
curated the shorts programme which highlight the up and coming genderqueer
movement; media artist Ivan E. Coyote will give a spoken word
performance at the
festival.

The programme Trans 'n' Sports focuses on the effects of gender segregation
in the world of professional sport. With screening of Karen Duthie's
100% Woman
, a documentary on Canadian national champion downhill mountain biker Michelle
Dumaresq, and Kurt Mayer's film Erik(A) on Erik Schinegger, who looks back at
the tumult in 1967 when he was Erika Schinegger, the world champion downhill
skiing who was tested as intersex by the IOC's gender test and was forced to
give up her successful professional career as an athlete.

Using music to tell extraordinary stories, the Sound of Transformation
programme contains films about talented musicians such as Venus in
Emily Goldberg's
Venus of Mars, the transgender glam-punkrocker from All the Pretty Horses, and
the Scottish singer-songwriter Simon de Voil in Travis Reeves' Funny Kinda Guy
; the unconventional 100% Human uses the aesthetic of music video to express
the pain and sorrows of the transition of a transgender youth.

The theme of female versus transgender masculinity is explored in the shorts
programme The Man in Us; being transgender at school is the main theme of the
youth programme It's not in a Game!, a showcase shorts and TV programmes made
on transgender youth dealing with school situations, like Nadav Gal's A
Different War, the Swedish En kille som jag/ Being a Boy by Mia
Olsson, and episodes
from daring youth TV programmes like Gemma Glitter and Jong!

The NTGF has always offered more than screenings: research on transgender
history will be presented in the Mapping our History programme; the Canadian
scholar Viviane Namaste will give an entertaining lecture on the historical
context for transsexual artists in Montréal in That was Showbusiness!
Furthermore,
the festival is honoured to screen the sneak preview of Victor Silverman and
Susan Stryker's historical documentary Screaming Queens, about an unknown but
important riot in 1966 which sparked off the transgender movement in San
Francisco. The festival is host to the Belgium art and historical
documentation
project Planet Gender, an ongoing project in which Estelle Slegers
and photographer
Marc de Clerq collect oral histories from the gender variant communities in
the Netherlands and Belgium.

The festival audience will be treated with another edition of our popular
experimental shorts programme T-Shorts #3, including animation films as Drive
Thru, Helpline!, Bikini but also the dry-humored satire Paszta
Cowboy , A: Gender

Queer Mutiny Bristol is part of a world wide movement of groups who are fed up with societies constant obsession with splitting things into two simple categories (male/female, gay/straight etc) and forcing people to act according to their genitals rather than their imagination. We aim to create spaces which function outside of the need for such limiting and binary definitions of gender, sex and sexuality whilst also looking deeper into our own understand of such categories. In many ways the conventional gay scene replicates the commercial, heirachial and binary nature of mainstream society. We want to create alternatives to this. Vor kurzer Zeit erschien mit "Mord!" der zweite Teil der Berlinoir Trilogie von Tobias O. Meißner und mir. Zu diesem Anlass veranstaltet die Galerie Knoth & Krüger eine Ausstellung mit Originalseiten aus dem Album. Ich möchte euch alle ganz herzlich zu der Eröffnung am 12. November ab 20 Uhr und den anderen Veranstaltungen einladen.
Im Rahmen der Ausstellung liest der Autor Tobias O. Meißner am 19. November um 21 Uhr aus seinen Romanen "Hiobs Spiel" und "Paradies der Schwerter" (beide Eichborn), anschliessend werden Tobias und ich unsere Bücher signieren.
Am 1. Dezember werde ich zur Finissage ab 20 Uhr schlimme Super 8 Filme laufen lassen.

So as youíll see from the programme, we know what we want to do on this two-day festival-the content is not our problem. Our problem is technical- collecting money! Kaum eine andere hat einen so interessanten, breit diskutierten und komplizierten Beitrag zur feministischen Theorie geleistet - ein Muss für alle, die sich für Gender-Theorien, Feminismus und queer-theory interessieren! Deshalb diskutieren wir auf der Grundlage eines (kurzen) Texts von Butler Fragen wie: Was bleibt nach der Dekonstruktion von Gender und Sex? Was bringen die Begriffe "Frau" und "Mann"? Wie helfen Parodie und Travestie beim Abbau des Systems der Zweigeschlechtlichkeit?

I am a 31 year old German transboy and I am regarding myself to be part of the dyke/trans and gay-male BDSM-communities (insofar as I am not facing exclusion because of my gender-identities) and the radical queer communities (as far as they exist…). I studied Philosophy, Chemistry and Educational Sciences. Currently I am working on my PhD thesis in Sociology at the University of Hamburg, where I also teach queer studies and feminist/queer science studies.

I am looking for kinky queers that I can interview for my PhD project.

For this I am looking for lesbians/dykes, bisexual/pansexual women, gender queers and trans people who regard themselves to be part of dyke BDSM-communities as well as gay leathermen (trans or not) who feel they are part of the gay male BDSM communities, and who feel able to be interviewed in either English or German. Some issues that are of special interest to me here are for example gender play, the relationship between „reality" and „fantasy" in BDSM play, definitions of sexuality, BDSM as a healing practice, BDSM as a political tool, the sex wars, community issues (like inclusionary and exclusionary practices) and how BDSM is related to other issues in your life, e.g. being transgendered, butch or femme, doing sex work, experimenting with non-monogamous lifestyles.... and everything I didn’t consider yet but is crucial to your relationship to BDSM! I have already interviewed about 15 people in the USA who are part of the dyke BDSM communities so far.

These issues are part of my life and it is very important to me that scientific research on queers is done by queers, for both political and epistemological reasons (that is: I think a queer perspective in these issues is crucial in generating valid knowledges.)

I am regarding the queers I want to interview in each case as experts on a range of topics that are part of their everyday-life. So I will conduct „expert interviews" with them. That means technically, that I am going to have a range of themes in mind, that I would want you to talk about. I would want to hear your experiences with these themes, but also your reflections on them. Basically you will be able to speak about anything you feel is important to the issues at hand.

Research ethics are very important to me. I will treat you with proper respect and I will make sure that all information will be made thoroughly anonymous. I will also keep in contact with you after the interview to give you the chance to correct anything you said but later felt you were not entirely comfortable with anymore. I will also show you my interpretations of your statements and give you a chance to critique my work (of course, this is not a duty you have to fulfil, but an offer you can choose not to accept). In other words, I will try to conduct my research safe, sane and consensual....
